Hamaza and Ayesha start their day with a happy song. Before washing their hands, before the first bite of breakfast, before putting on their shoes and before opening a book, they stop and say “Bismillah”. The word comes round again and again, so little ones can join in from the very first chorus.

The words in this song

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ
Bismillah
In the name of Allah

Watch together Try together Remember together

  1. 1. Watch together

Sit side by side and sing the chorus with your child.

  2. 2. Try together

Play “Bismillah Before…!” for about two minutes.

  3. 3. Remember together

Next time you sit down to eat, pause and say “Bismillah” together.

About 2 minutes

Try it together: Bismillah Before…!

  1. Sit together and say, “Let’s play Bismillah Before!”
  2. Pretend to do something from the song: wash your hands, take a bite, put on a shoe or open a book. Stop just before you start.
  3. Your child says “Bismillah!”, then you finish the action together.
  4. Swap: your child acts it out and you say “Bismillah!”
  5. Finish with a real moment: say it together before your next snack or drink.

Parent tip

Little ones learn by hearing you. Say “Bismillah” out loud, in a calm, happy voice, before everyday things, and let them catch you doing it. If they forget, gently model the words and say them together. Keep it playful, without testing or pressure.

For more everyday ideas, read our parent guide: How to teach your toddler to say Bismillah.

For parents: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) taught a child at his meal to mention Allah’s name before eating (Sahih al-Bukhari 5376). Beginning other good things with “Bismillah” is a widely practised Muslim habit, and the song uses everyday examples to help children remember it.
