Quran verse wall art: Ayat al-Kursi calligraphy

How to Choose a Verse for Your Wall

  • Start with meaning. Choose a verse whose message speaks to your family: hope, gratitude, trust, mercy or remembrance.
  • Consider length. Short verses suit small prints and minimalist designs; long verses such as Ayat al-Kursi need a larger size to stay readable.
  • Think about the room. A verse about knowledge suits a study; a verse about tranquillity suits a bedroom; a verse about gratitude suits a dining area.
  • Check accuracy. The Arabic must be correct. Avoid designs, including many AI-generated images, that only imitate Arabic letters.
  • Know the translation. Keep the English meaning nearby, or include it in the design, so everyone in the home understands it.

Popular Verses for Quran Verse Wall Art

Ayat al-Kursi (2:255)

Known as the Throne Verse, Ayat al-Kursi describes Allah’s life, knowledge, authority and care over the heavens and the earth. The Prophet (peace be upon him) confirmed that it is the greatest verse in the Book of Allah:

“Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: O Abu’ al-Mundhir, do you know the verse from the Book of Allah which, according to you, is the greatest? I said: Allah and His Apostle (ﷺ) know best. He again said: Abu’l-Mundhir, do you know the verse from the Book of Allah which, according to you, is the greatest? I said: Allah, there is no god but He, the Living, the Eternal. Thereupon he struck me on my breast and said: May knowledge be pleasant for you, O Abu’l-Mundhir!”

(Sahih Muslim 810)

“Allāh – there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursī extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.”

(Qur’an 2:255, Saheeh International)

An important clarification: the authentic narrations about protection relate to reciting Ayat al-Kursi, for example before sleeping (Sahih al-Bukhari 5010). They do not say that hanging it on a wall protects a home. Displaying the verse is a beautiful reminder to recite and reflect on it, not a replacement for recitation.

Surah Al-Ikhlas (112)

This short surah summarises the Oneness of Allah in four verses, which makes it ideal for a compact, elegant design:

“Say, “He is Allāh, [who is] One,”

(Qur’an 112:1, Saheeh International)

“Allāh, the Eternal Refuge.”

(Qur’an 112:2, Saheeh International)

“He neither begets nor is born,”

(Qur’an 112:3, Saheeh International)

“Nor is there to Him any equivalent.”

(Qur’an 112:4, Saheeh International)

“With Hardship Comes Ease” (94:5–6)

One of the most comforting passages in the Qur’an, and a popular choice for anyone going through a difficult time:

“For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease [i.e., relief].”

(Qur’an 94:5, Saheeh International)

“Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.”

(Qur’an 94:6, Saheeh International)

Hearts at Rest (13:28)

A reminder that true peace comes through the remembrance of Allah, well suited to a bedroom, reading nook or prayer corner:

“Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allāh. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allāh hearts are assured.”

(Qur’an 13:28, Saheeh International)

Trust in Allah (65:3)

A verse about reliance on Allah and His sufficiency, fitting for an entrance or workspace:

“And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allāh – then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allāh will accomplish His purpose. Allāh has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.”

(Qur’an 65:3, Saheeh International)

The Door of Mercy (39:53)

A verse of hope that no one should despair of Allah’s mercy:

“Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allāh. Indeed, Allāh forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.”

(Qur’an 39:53, Saheeh International)

“Call Upon Me” (40:60)

A reminder that Allah invites His servants to ask of Him:

“And your Lord says, “Call upon Me; I will respond to you.” Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.”

(Qur’an 40:60, Saheeh International)

A Dua for Good in Both Worlds (2:201)

One of the most frequently recited supplications, short enough for a small print:

“But among them is he who says, “Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”

(Qur’an 2:201, Saheeh International)

A Dua for Steadfast Hearts (3:8)

“[Who say], “Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.”

(Qur’an 3:8, Saheeh International)

The First Revelation (96:1)

The first word revealed to the Prophet (peace be upon him) was “Recite”. This verse suits a study, a child’s learning corner or a home library:

“Recite in the name of your Lord who created”

(Qur’an 96:1, Saheeh International)

More Qur’anic Duas for the Home

The Qur’an contains many short supplications that suit family spaces.

For parents (17:24)

“And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, “My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small.”

(Qur’an 17:24, Saheeh International)

For the family and future generations (14:40–41)

“My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication.”

(Qur’an 14:40, Saheeh International)

“Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established.”

(Qur’an 14:41, Saheeh International)

For spouses and children (25:74)

“And those who say, “Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us a leader [i.e., example] for the righteous.”

(Qur’an 25:74, Saheeh International)

Duas like these work well in a family room or hallway, where they remind everyone to pray for one another.

A Long Tradition of Qur’anic Inscriptions

Quran verse wall art continues a tradition that goes back to the early centuries of Islam. Qur’anic inscriptions appear in some of the oldest surviving Islamic buildings, such as the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, completed in the late seventh century, and they became a central feature of mosques, schools and palaces across the Muslim world. Calligraphers developed their art largely in the service of the Qur’an, and the most skilled were among the most honoured artists of their societies.

Today, the same tradition continues in homes. A printed verse on a living-room wall may be modest compared with a mosque dome, but the purpose is similar: to keep the words of Allah visible and present in daily life.

Colours and Finishes

For Quran verse wall art, restraint usually works best. Ivory or cream backgrounds with black, deep green or gold lettering are easy to read and suit most interiors. Very busy backgrounds can make the text hard to read, which defeats the purpose of displaying a verse. A matt finish reduces glare, which is helpful for text-heavy designs such as Ayat al-Kursi.

Quran Verse Wall Art as a Gift

A carefully chosen verse makes a meaningful gift: 30:21 for a wedding, 14:40–41 for new parents, 94:5–6 for someone facing hardship, or Surah Al-Ikhlas for a friend who has recently embraced Islam. Include the English meaning so the recipient can reflect on it. Because our designs are digital, the files can be sent immediately and printed at the size that suits the recipient’s home.

Caring for Your Prints

Keep prints out of strong direct sunlight and away from damp walls. A frame with glazing protects paper prints from dust and moisture. If a print fades or is damaged, replace it and dispose of the old one respectfully, as many people do with worn pages containing Qur’anic text.

Understand the Verse Before You Display It

Quran verse wall art is most powerful when the people who see it understand it. Before choosing a verse, read it in context: look at the verses before and after it, and, if possible, read a short explanation in a trusted commentary (tafsir). For example, “With hardship comes ease” (94:5–6) appears in a surah revealed to comfort the Prophet (peace be upon him) during a difficult period, which gives the words even more depth. Knowing the context also helps avoid misusing a verse, such as treating a single sentence as a promise it was never meant to make.

A good habit is to write the verse reference and a one-line meaning on a small card beside the print, or to include the English translation in the design itself. This turns the piece into a small lesson for guests and children as well as a reminder for you.

Checklist for Choosing Quran Verse Wall Art

  1. The Arabic text is correct and complete, with no missing or invented letters.
  2. You know the verse reference and have read its meaning in a reliable translation.
  3. The size suits the length of the verse and the wall.
  4. The colours keep the text readable.
  5. The placement is respectful and clean.
  6. Everyone in the home knows what the verse says.

If a design you want is not available, a custom design can be requested, so your Quran verse wall art can feature the verse that means most to your family.

Quran Verse Wall Art for Different Stages of Life

The verses a family chooses often change over the years. Newly married couples frequently choose 30:21 about love and mercy between spouses. Parents of young children often pick short surahs that the children are learning, such as Surah Al-Ikhlas, so the wall supports memorisation. During illness, loss or hardship, many people turn to 94:5–6 or 39:53 for comfort and hope. In later life, verses about gratitude and the remembrance of Allah, such as 13:28 or 55:13, are especially popular.

Because our Quran verse wall art is supplied as digital files, you can change or add pieces as your family’s circumstances change, without waiting for a delivery or storing bulky frames. Some families keep a small rotation of prints and change them with the seasons, for example putting up a verse about fasting during Ramadan and a verse of gratitude for Eid.

Whatever stage of life you are in, let the verse you choose be one you want to live by, not only one that looks beautiful. That is what turns Quran verse wall art from decoration into a daily reminder.

Room-by-Room Suggestions

  • Entrance: 65:3 (trust in Allah) or Ayat al-Kursi.
  • Living room: Ayat al-Kursi as a large focal point, or Surah Al-Ikhlas.
  • Dining area: “So which of the favours of your Lord would you deny?” (55:13).
  • Bedroom: 13:28 (hearts at rest).
  • Study or office: 96:1 or “My Lord, increase me in knowledge” (from 20:114).
  • Prayer corner: 2:201 or 3:8, placed so as not to distract during prayer.

Displaying Quran Verse Wall Art with Respect

Because these are the words of Allah, many Muslims take particular care in how they are displayed. Common considerations include:

  • Hanging verses at a respectful height rather than near the floor.
  • Keeping them out of bathrooms and toilets.
  • Avoiding places where they may be splashed, damaged or treated carelessly.
  • Replacing faded or damaged prints and disposing of old ones respectfully.
  • Placing a verse where it will be noticed and reflected on, not hidden or forgotten.

Scholarly opinions on displaying Qur’anic verses vary. Some scholars discourage it, particularly where it may lead to disrespect or be treated merely as decoration or as a charm, while others permit it with appropriate care. If you are unsure, ask a knowledgeable person in your community. Whatever you decide, the verses on your walls are best treated as an invitation to recite, understand and act upon the Qur’an.

Arabic Script and Readability

Quran verse wall art can be written in several calligraphic styles. Naskh is the most readable and is used in most printed copies of the Qur’an, which makes it a good choice for longer verses. Thuluth is elegant and often seen in mosques, suiting shorter verses at larger sizes. Kufic is angular and modern-looking but can be harder to read. For a family home, readability matters: a verse that children and guests can recognise is more likely to be read and remembered.

Printing Sizes for Quran Verse Wall Art

  • A5 and A4: short verses and duas on shelves, desks and small walls.
  • A3: medium verses in hallways and bedrooms.
  • A2 and A1: Ayat al-Kursi and other long verses as a main focal point.

Teaching Children Through Quran Verse Wall Art

Verses on the wall can support children’s learning. Choose short verses they are memorising, such as Surah Al-Ikhlas, and read them together. Point to each word as you recite, explain the meaning simply and let them tell you where they would like the print to go. Over time, the wall becomes part of how they learn and love the Qur’an.

Frequently Asked Questions about Quran Verse Wall Art

Is it permissible to hang Qur’an verses on the wall?

Scholarly opinions vary. Many permit it with care and respect, while some discourage it, especially where it may lead to disrespect or be treated as a charm. If you are unsure, ask a knowledgeable person in your community.

Does hanging Ayat al-Kursi protect a home?

The authentic narrations about protection relate to reciting Ayat al-Kursi, for example before sleep (Sahih al-Bukhari 5010). They do not say that displaying it protects a home. A print is best seen as a reminder to recite and reflect.

Which verse is best for a living room?

Ayat al-Kursi printed at A2 or A1 is a popular focal point, as is Surah Al-Ikhlas for a more minimal look.

Where should Qur’an verses not be displayed?

Many people avoid bathrooms, low positions near the floor and places where prints could be damaged or treated carelessly.

Do you sell framed or canvas prints?

No. Our designs are instant digital downloads supplied as high-resolution JPEG files, which you can print on paper or canvas. No physical item is shipped.
